HO'OMA'A WA'A INVITATIONAL

Our History

Established in 2024, the Hoʻomaʻa Waʻa Invitational was created from a vision of Hoʻomaʻa Foundation Founder and President Brian Keaulana to bring canoe surfing back to the forefront and create an event dedicated to perpetuating the skill, tradition, and culture of riding waves together as a crew.

Held at Māʻili Point on Oʻahu's Waiʻanae Coast, the invitational brings together experienced watermen and women for a day of competition, camaraderie, and connection to the ocean. The event celebrates not only the skill required to surf a canoe, but also the teamwork, ocean knowledge, trust, and respect that have been passed down through generations.

More than a competition, the Hoʻomaʻa Waʻa Invitational is about keeping this part of Hawaiʻi's ocean culture alive. Through the event, Hoʻomaʻa Foundation creates opportunities to share knowledge, inspire the next generation, and ensure the tradition of canoe surfing continues for generations to come.
