Matthew Patterson

Matthew Patterson was raised on Widemann Street in Makaha, next to the legendary women's world champion surfer Rell Sunn. Under her guidance, he learned to surf at Aki's beach and later competed in the inaugural Rell Sunn Menehune surf competition. Matthew attended Makaha Elementary School and graduated from Kamehameha Schools. He then joined the Hawai'i Army National Guard as combat medic, serving in three combat tours. His journey into emceeing began with Boogie Kalama's introduction at the Buffalo Big Board Surfing Classic, where he has been the host emcee every year since.
